We know that psychotherapy can bring about enduring change in people. We do not know how this happens, particularly regarding brain mechanisms. This conference aims to review state of the art knowledge about basic mechanisms in the brain that are relevant to enduring change, such as reconsolidation of emotional memories, and discuss the implications of these mechanisms for how the leading forms of psychotherapy are and should be conducted.
